The project “Kosmos” targets children grades 4-6 and includes an educational interactive dance performance with a subsequent workshop. Children learn about our solar system and planets with playful original songs. Then, through dance, with their bodies, alone and in groups, everyone is allowed to explore and experiment, such as; gravity, elements that exist in the universe, and the big bang. In a time of extreme anxiety, the goal is to help children find confidence in their abilities, trust in others, and, with the help of imagination and knowledge, arouse a wonder about life, which creates hope for the future.

Cunningham and Limón techniques influence my modern/contemporary class, and I also utilize the release technique to find dynamics in the movement. The lesson starts with simple exercises to warm up all the muscles and joints and find articulations in the spines and an organic way of moving. Continue with exercises on the floor, strengthening the core muscles and gaining the proper body coordination. At the end of the lesson, I teach choreography, where I guide and challenge participants to find musicality, dynamics, and individuality.

The base of my workshop is practising improvisation and composition, which are very useful in auditions or working situations in the company. The content/focus changes depending on the choreographic work I am currently working on. My background and heritage as a Japanese woman strongly influence my work. Finding our unique dance vocabulary that is deeply connected to who you are is always fascinating. In the workshop, I will guide the students to find their movements and teach composition skills and tools to develop their unique choreography
